Walsall Arboretum is a beautiful 170-acre park nestled just a short stroll from the town centre. First opened in 1874, this Set in the heart of Walsall, this historic Victorian park offers 170 acres of beautiful open space, gardens, walking trails, sports facilities and family-friendly attractions – all just a short walk from the town centre.

Things to do at Walsall Arboretum

Walking & Nature Trails:
With flat, tarmac-surfaced paths throughout, the Arboretum is ideal for walking and exploring at your own pace. Whether you’re after a gentle stroll or a spot to enjoy nature, you’ll find over 10,000 species of trees and shrubs, lakeside views, and wildlife across the park.

Family Activities:
There’s plenty to keep little ones entertained, from the children’s play area to the ever-popular splash pad (open from 24 May to 31 August 2025 – weekends, bank holidays and school holidays from 11am–5pm, and weekdays during term time from 11am–3pm). There’s also a skate park and space to play.

Cycling & Running:
Join one of the social cycling groups or local running clubs. The park also hosts community fitness events, such as Couch to 5K and guided health walks.

Fishing:
Fishing is available at Hatherton Lake (with a valid licence). Accessible pegs are provided, and all fish must be returned to the water.

Sports:
The Arboretum is home to bowling greens, football pitches, tennis courts (book online via the LTA), and a cricket pitch. Table tennis tables and a multi-use games area are also free to use.

Events & Community:
The park regularly hosts events, outdoor performances at the bandstand, and group meetups. Visit the Visitor Centre for information, or hire a room or bandstand for your own event.

Picnics & Relaxation:
With over 60 benches, open lawns, and a sensory garden, it’s a lovely place for a picnic or peaceful break.

Accessibility

Paths across the park are wheelchair and pushchair friendly, with many over 1.5m wide. Accessible toilets and parking are available at the Visitor Centre (via Arboretum Road, WS1 2QH). The pavilion also has two wheelchair-friendly toilets with emergency pull cords and supportive layouts.

Car Parking

Free parking is available at the Arboretum Extension on Broadway North and The Crescent. Paid parking is available near the town centre entrances. Check local signage for details.
